How to choose a packaging mockup that holds up

Start with the angle, not the style. A client signing off a box print wants a three-quarter view with the side panel visible. A shop listing wants top-down. A social post wants a hand in the shot.

Then check the material. Kraft, matte card, glossy board and foil catch light differently, and a smart object can’t make a matte box look glossy. If the real product is foil, use a foil mockup.

Last: put the actual dieline artwork in, not a flat logo. Proper warp layers show you where the barcode or the small print lands on a fold, which is better found in Photoshop than at the printer. Every PSD here opens the same way: double-click the smart object, paste, save. No Photoshop? You can get Photoshop from Adobe, or use the foil pouch, which edits in the browser.

Are these packaging mockups really free?

Yes, all 20 are free to download. A few ask for a free account on the creator’s site (Adobe Stock, Design Bundles). Licenses differ by creator, so check the terms on each file’s page before commercial use.

What format are the files?

Mostly layered PSD files with smart objects. The foil pouch can also be edited online and exported as PNG, PSD or SVG.

Which free packaging mockup should I start with?

For a product box, the square cardboard box. For drinks, the iced coffee cup or the soda can in hand. For beauty, the cosmetic box and tube.
